Last day! Most made the 5am wake up and we headed off down the path for about 20minutes to a bird hide they had built right by a parrots clay lick. We had to be there before the parrots so as not to frighten them. We didn't have to wait long as soon they were amassing in the trees - we spent a great 90 minutes or so watching - blue headed parrots ( the first to arrive) meelly parrots with the red flash on their wings, chestnut fronted macaws and yellow headed parrots - we also took pictures of a spix's guan as one popped onto the scene and foraged in the undergrowth. After an excellent experience at the lick we headed back for final showers, packing and breakfast.
Sadly our two days had come to an end and at 9.15 we were walking back to river to begin our return boat and bus journey. Back at the rainforest base they had been doing some digging of the pathways - Lainey soon found a hole which spread eagled her and no doubt left sore bits! We were given 10 minutes to repack our bags - needless to say we didn't do it very well - cramming in dirty washing and taking what we needed for our flights home and hoping we had the right things in the right places... we then jumped on the bus and headed to the airport - we had to queue while they checked our hold luggage for prohibited articles eg gas canisters - then made our way to departures where seats were at a premium - as a result we camped out on the floor and commandeered a fan - deciding it was only fair - fan or seat - you couldn't have both!
Eventually the plane arrived and we headed to Lima via a short stop in Cusco. We arrived about 4pm which meant the main group had to check in with KLM immediately albeit the process took a while - we waited and said our goodbyes - strange we won't be seeing everybody tomorrow - after 3 weeks they have become like old slippers - warm and comforting. Then there were 4 - Dan and Alex and John and I - we headed to Dunkin Donuts for a really nice coffee and a donut - mine was called delirium and I have to say with carmel inside and nuts on the outside it was a good description -we then said goodbye to Dan and Alex as they were able to check in by 1930 and we were alone....albeit American were due to check in at 2000 they didn't start until nearer 2130 but we eventually made it to the lounge where I caught up with my emails. The flight took off at 0200 and no sooner were we up than my seat was flat and I was asleep - the next thing I knew was that breakfast was being served - yummy thin crepes not horrible thick pancakes!!
