We have all been pretty stressed out here this week. I mean, I'm trying not to complain too much because, after all, better to be in Oxford writing papers and studying for tests than having to do those same things back at Rhodes. Still, it's not very fun. Plus I haven't been feeling very well the last couple of days, so I just want to lie in bed. The last thing I want to do is write a paper on Le Morte D'Arthur and another one on the Lollard movement and then have to take my art history test with slides I've never seen before because 1000 years of art is a lot of stuff to remember. Okay, for reals, I'm done complaining.
I have gotten into this nice routine where I go to Blackwell's almost every day after class to do my homework. It's this really awesome bookstore, and I get a mocha, sit in one of the chairs by a window, and read while listening to my Brit Mix on my iPod (everything from Coldplay and Bowie, to U2 and The Streets). It (sorta) makes the work more bearable.
In addition to the aforementioned work, my group in Arthurian Lit. had to come up with a modern adaptation of something we had read. And tomorrow we have to act it out. In front of the rest of our class and all our other professors. That should be... interesting. One group is doing a Jerry Springer-esque skit about the knights. Another group is doing a fraternity/sorority spin on "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight." We are doing a spinoff of America's Next Top Model - Camelot's Next Top Knight. Cristina is playing Tyra Banks and says "Fierce!" a lot. I'm playing Guinevere, who is one of the judges, so I basically talk about how dreamy Lancelot is the whole time. I'm not looking forward to having to talk in front of people...
Hopefully, this weekend will make up for all the pain and embarrassment of this week. We fly from Heathrow to Dublin on Friday morning (bus leaves Oxford for London at 6:15 am!!). The first thing we are doing when we get there is touring the Guinness Brewery. We are staying at Trinity College, which is supposed to be really pretty - plus, the library there has the Book of Kells, which is this freakin' sweet illuminated manuscript from, like, 800 AD.
Okay, I've put off working for too long. I'll post again when I'm back from the land of leprechauns.
