The Hai Van Pass
Instead of travelling by motorbike which lots of travellers attempt, we opted for a jeep ride to enjoy the views from the safety of a proper car. Saying this, the driver was pretty crazy on the roads. Despite taking up half the road he still attempted to overtake any vehicle he came across, all the while answering phone calls and smoking. But we weirdly felt safe being driven by him. We were in the jeep with a girl from Germany who was about to start her second degree and a guy from Canada.
We stopped for lunch at a deserted beach. It was incredible weather and we were the only ones swimming enjoying the warm water. We ate at a basic restaurant with plastic chairs and the family that lived there eating beside us.
We stopped every so often for pictures. While on a bridge looking over the lagoon our driver took a picture of us standing on the jeep. We carried on and the route took us along a cliff face overlooking the sea. It was beautiful and the views reminded me of the great ocean road. We were told when we got to the top of the Hai Van Pass and and we could see Hoi An in the distance. We stopped in De Nang and had the opportunity to walk round some temples set on the hill side.
On arrival in Hoi An we saw many backpackers with injuries from the route we had taken. We were happy that we didn’t attempt motorbikes on such a lengthy journey over cliff faces.
