Jayne and I arrived in our room at nomads hostel to find clothes and belongings cluttering the 6 person bed room. We found out later that the guys staying in the room had lived there 4 months while they were working. Luckily when I complained about a faulty locker we were moved us to a smaller tidy room. That evening we headed to Southbank across the river. Brisbane festival was going on and we sat by the river eating street food surrounded by fairy lights and in front of a colourful large Brisbane sign. It was busy as people spilled out from work and a really nice atmosphere. We found it funny that only a few months back Jayne and I had met up at Southbank in London for a catch up. Brisbane's version was very similar and the scenes along the river really reminded us of London. That night I hardly slept as music was pumping from the bar downstairs. I was so glad that Jess and I had decided on another hostel for the rest of our time in Brisbane.
Jess landed at 6.30 the following morning. We got up early to meet her but she found her own way and came to meet us in our hostel room. It was so exciting and surreal to see her here on the other side of the world after weeks of planning and anticipation. We all went out for breakfast across the road to catch up. It was nice for two of my close friends to meet and get to know eachother. We pottered around during the day as Jess was tired and Jayne had a flight in the afternoon. The day went quickly and before I knew it I had to say goodbye to Jayne. Again sad to say goodbye to another travelling partner. Jess and I had an early night as she tried to get over the jet lag.
The next day we went to a cafe to get wifi and plan the next few weeks. We did lots of research on the tours we wanted to do and the prices of different companies. At our hostel we were able to get help planning our trip to cairns and to book a package deal with a number of tours. We negotiated prices with the sales woman as we knew how much each tour was meant to be worth. We managed to book onto the Fraser Island tour for a couple of days time despite a lot of them being booked up. We also booked onto a whitsunday island sailing trip and a tour near cairns of waterfalls. The most exciting part of our plan was to do a sky dive over mission beach. It was good to book in advance so there's no backing out of the idea. We had a very productive day and even booked our buses and hostels for the next few days. Again we needed an early night and got up early the next day to sort ourselves out to go to Hervey Bay where we would get the transfer to Fraser Island from.
