Unfortunately the boat cruise was closed due to the high level of rain. They couldn't guarantee our safety from crocs (as much as you can guarantee something like that anyway). We also could swim for the same reason. This was very frustrating. It was really humid - we visited a couple of waterfalls and all we could do was look at them. I was particularly upset about one that was a thermal spring that cascaded down a long area at a low level. It is possible to sit quite comfortably on one of the many ledges and get a cooling neck and shoulder massage :o(
Saw some kind of water snake/lizard thing at that waterfall.
We saw some aboriginal rock art - that was cool. Also saw a very, very, big cathedral termite mound and a magnetic termite mound. Magnetic mounds always run in one direction. I forgot the direction :o0
On arrival at the hostel we were given free meal tickets for that evening at the Old Victoria Hotel. We agreed to meet at 8pm. That was enough time to shower, wash AND DRY AND STRAIGHTEN hair. I shared a room with Gemma and Celine.
In Australia, Pubs or bars are often called hotels. So the Old Victoria Hotel was not a hotel. Neither was it old. It is very much a backpacker's bar. The food was good though. They were games at the beginning, which a couple of people from our group won. Jaegermeister and me become firm friends :o)
I requested quite a few songs. First up was Dee Lite: recommended by Barry, and whole-heartly approved my Chris and myself. That got everyone on the dance floor.
It felt so great to dance! It had been over 4 weeks since I'd boogied. Even though the music was cheese, it was still great. I found out from Mike that I went up to him about 3 times and said happily (and maybe manically): "It's been so long since I've danced!" According to Jane I have taken Barry's dancing crown. I tried to give it back, but he didn't want it :o)
Chris and Christina had an argument at some point. I didn't see it, but saw the sullen, glowering faces afterwards.
Mike cleaned up when I requested Sir Mixalot, I like big butts. Apparently all these older guys jumped up onto the dance floor and money was flying out of their pockets :o)
Had a very close and slow dance with Morton, but he crossed the line with his hands, which as a shame, as it was going quite well. Not sure if it was down to over-eagerness, youth or a cultural difference (he's Danish).
Gemma managed to get a hold of my camera and wouldn't give it back. I have lots of pictures of drunk me. Great. I even have a video - sounds like a cat is being strangled in the background :oS
Fun night :o)
