Be proud of your descriptive powers! (sorry about the exclamation mark, Mrs. Doel). Oddly enough, there was a report about Dharavi in The Guardian earlier this week stating that certain developers wanted it raised to the ground to build apartments, retail outlets (the usual). One minor fault with the plan appeared to be that they hadn't thought about where to put all of those potentially displaced people.
Sorry that your Bollywood career is still pending. An Indian colleague of mine thinks that you would have to play a waitress or a rich colonial hiding in the background, exemplifying a fading. imperialist, colonial leftover. If it's the latter, ask for 750 rupees.
Seriously, though, your blog made me dig out my copy of Mira Nair's film "Salaam Bombay" (1988) until I realised it's a tape and I no longer have a VCR! (sorry Mrs D etc). Will have to get the DVD version.
Anyhow, great stuff, Liz - take care, but you appear to be in good hands; naturally we all miss you in Birmingham and please explain your Mother's aversion to these: !!!!!!

Hi Lizzie,
I've never been on a blog before either! It's not just the oldies !!!! ; ) sorry bout the over use of exclammation marks Mum.
Sounds so exciting. I feel better now I know what you've been up to. Are you going to be in a Bollywood movie then? I think once you've been in a Bollywood movie you've done it all..and then you might as well come back home cos how you gonna top that?!! (again I apologise Mum).
Thinking of you loads and loads
Lots of love XXXXXXXXXX

Hi lizzie, loving your blog already. I'm sorry we missed each other on the phone before you went but looks like you had a great send off. I'm impressed with your eating out, once you've done it once it will be a breeze next time! I still can't quite believe you are there. Rob wants to know if you've seen the thieving monkeys of Mumbai yet (he watched something about it on the tv-don't ask). Thinking of you lots of love Vicky xx

Traffic, eh? I'm impressed by your nonchalance. Remember I'm the person that insisted on getting a taxi to cross the road in Georgia. Yes, you read that right. Mumbai sounds amazing. Your texts have done a good job keeping in touch. Good ole technology. Love it and you. Love mum x x x

Well I've only blogged once before and that was about the road access to Sheffield station, so you can see I don't blog frivolously. You had us all in tears at the airport, but then we reminded ourselves you weren't going to Afghanistan and that you were doing this of your free will. I hope you appreciate the restraint on the exclamation marks because I know your mother will be reading this. I wonder if I'm allowed to do this :-)
Thinking of you, Liz, and really envious of you discovering a whole new city. I bet Mumbai is mind-blowing. Tell me what the public transport's like! Give my best to the School of Social Work tomorrow. Lots of love, Dad. xx

Good lord, I'm reading and replying to a blog. New experiences coming thick and fast...daughter leaving for another continent, granddaughter saying nannie, and now blogging. I have to go and lie down and have a cup of tea.
Love and hugs
