INNOCENTS ABROAD
" Jay and myself wish Julian and Sophie all the best on their exciting trip and more importantly their efforts to raise money for the very worthy cause that soschildrensvillages undertakes" Antony Worrall Thompson
In early 2008 we embark on a long journey.......Overlanding Africa in our Toyota Landcruiser, which will be our home away from home, we will cross 23 of this huge continents countries driving through some of the most difficult terraine.
It will give us the opportunity to see wildlife at its wildest, landscape at its most beautiful and culture at its most primitive and interesting. We will have many life changing experiences, making us more capable people and most importantly, giving us a better understanding of the world in which we live and the unfair standards of living which some areas of the world seem to have to constantly struggle with.
The problems Africa faces dont need explaining to most of us however they continue in frightening proportions and the children of Africa bare the brunt, becoming orphaned in huge numbers because of the loss of parents by disease, war or famine.
With this in mind we are working in conjunction with www.soschildren.org the worlds largest charity for orphaned children who create villages, provide schooling, medical treatment and, most importantly a parent to try and make their upbringing as normal as possible.
Our target is to raise at least £100,000 towards this charity.
With 23 countries to cross and only 22 weeks left before we depart, we have a massive task when it comes to preparation. This site will keep you informed on progress upto and throughout the trip.
As points on interest we will have sections on the food and music of Africa, which we encounter, and video clips of some of the exciting happenings of which there will be many we're sure!
We are also planning fundraising events running up to our departure, which is during World Orphan Week. If you feel you can help us raise funds or have any comments please email us via this site.
