Hi everyone, we are now in Hervey bay, which is lovely! and there is actually a beach!! and even better than that - you are allowed in the sea!! this is the first place we have visited that we are allowed in the sea without stinger suits due to it being stinger season- box jelley fish - not nice.
any way its really beautiful here, and the hostel we are staying at is really nice,
we headed over to fraiser island for 2 nights, which was really good fun!
fraiser island is the largest sand island in the world, has more sand than the sahars desert and holds more water than sydney harbour (i was listening!!)
there are no roads on friaser, so you have to go in 4x4's which we did. we joined a tour which was actually really good,i didnt fancy doing a self drive as 1 it was expensive and 2 we would spend all our time digging the 4x4 out of the sand!!!
we visited beautiful fresh water lakes and went for a swim, walked across sand dunes, saw the famous coloured sand that friaser produces, walked through rainforests and saw the remains of a wreck of an old ship on the beach.
the photo shows a 4x4 driving across the beach - this is true, there are no roads so they drive across the beach- thats there highway!!!
we stayed overnight in a camp site which was nice, got woken up early by a cookabara (however you spell it) and even saw a massive monitor lizzard roaming the camp site.
in the morning we went up to indian head, a look out point high up on the cliffs, which was beautiful, looking down you could see sharks and stingrays in the sea!
the two days were jam packed and really good fun, defently worth a visit.
