4th July
After driving for a long time we arrived at a campsight with a pool so we went swimming. At night time because it was the 4th of July there were loads and loads of fireworks! There were massive big bangy ones, whistly ones that you couldn't see, massive bangy ones with a fizz, medium poppy ones loads !
All the rules we use on bonfire night were broken! Dogs were outside, people were firering them from thier hands, the fireworks were being set off on the road and cars were driving through them! People were running about on the road through the fireworks and a child got hit by a car!
There were police there, fire engines and an ambulance. This all went on for about 3 hours: it was the caziest thing i ever saw! Eventually we went to sleep. Here, unlike Alaska, it gets dark. This is the first time we have seen dark on the whole trip!
5th July
After all that chaos from yesterday we went swimming again then drove from Washington to Oregon, where we found a campsight by Bogus creek and made our tea on a fire!
6th July
After waking up, making breakfast on the fire we started driving (we're hiring a car in the USA and we left the camper in Alaska). Water......no it's disappeared! Arrrggghhh is this water or not??? Nope they're mirages! Loads of them they look like water on the road but as we drive closer they disappear! We can even see the reflection of cars in the water as they drive past! First we went to see some American Indian drawings on a huge stone. Then we drove to Crater Lake! We swam in it! It was fffrrreeezzzing so we didn't stay in very long! Did you know that Crater lake was a volcanoe that burst and eventually turned into a lake? It has an island on it called wizard island which grew from the lake and has a volcanoe hole in it, even though wizard island hasn't erupted it is only asleep so it could erupt any second! And maybe at some point wizard island could fill up the whole of crator lake and make a huge volcanoe again!
7th July
After waking up and driving we found the coast redwoods and the giant sequoias the were huge! We saw the biggest trees in the world! As you may of guesed we are now in California. Then we we went to a campsight by the Sea, it wasn't a very good campsight: it was a bit tatty.
8th July
After driving a lot we saw more redwoods and seqoias but they weren't as big as yeterday! Then we did more driving to a little river and sat in it. We didn't swim because it wasn't deep enough. Then we went to another place where we could swim and it was lovely! there was even a little rock island that we jumped off ! Then we found anouther campsight after more driving and went to sleep. News flash:Jack has lost his tooth! :-)
grandma What an amazing trip America on 4th July and Crater Lake and the Redwoods . How exciting. I heard about the tooth. Well done Jack. Xxxxxxxxxxx

Granny Those giant trees must make my 'forest' look very small and undersized! They must have been stunning. Were you able to hold hands and circle a tree? I've been swimming in the sea - but I still need a wetsuit - not as warm here as with you. Jack - can you whistle through the gap in your teeth?? I'm loving your blog - Lots of love

Kieran in Glasgow I love your fireworks descriptions. I think whoever makes fireworks should ask you to come up with names and descriptions for them, as I never really know if a "Bombastic" will be a massive bangy one with a fizz or a medium poppy one.
