In Nairobi I met a man called Oliver Gitau and his family. He told me about his life and asked me to tell people about him in England.
He is married with 2 daughters ages 4 and 6. During the 2007 election violence he fled with his family to escape the fighting.
His wife was gang raped and she got HIV. His daughter has HIV from breastfeeding. Oliver also has HIV from his wife.
Oliver cannot work to support his family because he is too ill! The family are now in debt from the rent pay on their home - made from metal sheets and wood.
They cannot afford sufficient food for the girls. Oliver's rent is 600 shillings a month (around 5 pound) His home is the size of a small room.
'' If we eat at night then we do not sleep hungry. This way we do not feel like animals. So we go hungry at day instead when we are distracted'' Oliver told me as I held his daughters hands.
1/5 Kenyans have consumption levels below basic food needs (DFID 2007)
7.8% of Kenyans have HIV (in 2007)
Oliver runs a support group for people with HIV and social problems. He is helping others even thought his own life seems hopeless.
