Luke and I got up very early (again) to catch the bus to Bukoba. We managed to get to the bus and onto it with ease which was a blessing as we were in no mood for bartering so early in the morning! As we were travelling along, we were pleasantly supprised to find that we were crossing a part of the lake on a ferry (addmitidly a very small part but still!). We rode on top of the ferry for about 30 mins in the lovely sun looking over the endless, beautiful lake. We then arrived in Bukoba and got to the campsite with ease again. The campsite was so beautiful and perfectly situated. It is placed on a beach of Lake Victoria, with white sand and friendly owners.
When we were just walking along the beach we met another traveller (the first proper traveller we have met!) and got talking with him. His name is Henri and was from Germany. He is travelling around Africa, the same as us. As we were talking, we found out that he was staying at the same place as us and he was also leavining for Uganda the next day! He had already booked his bus ticket so he directed us where to go so off we went on the back of a boda-boda (motorbike).
Later that evening we met up with Henri again and had some drinks with him. We found out that our seats were next to each other so we agreed to help wake each other up in the morning. Later on after we had eaten some chips mayai (a chips omlette and one of the most amazing foods I've ever eaten), some locals had bought some floating lanterns and planned to set them off on the beach. The three of us were invited to join them and help set them off. It was very dark at this point so we could see the infinate stars and the lights of the fishing boats far out on the water. When the lanterns were lit and set off (after some help from the german thinker and engineer to be), the effect was stunning! We then decided to go for a midnight swim under the stars. At this point the lake was freezing so we didn't spend that long in it so Luke and I headed off to our tiny tent and Henri to his banda tired but happy.
