Hi guys, just sat in the english office! Want to update you on everything that has happened, if you are reading this through fbook or on here, let other people know aswell by sharing it or whatever :) So after 17 hours of travelling on the plane we 15 arrived in Kuala Lumpur (KL) the capital of Malaysia. From here it was a 2 hour drive to Seremban2 in which our hotel was located, called Setera. It was nice, no 5 star, but i wasnt complaining as at least we had got here! We went out with Noraini Bell (host) to a local food court. A food court is chairs and tables surrounded by places to get food, this one was open air and only had the one place to get food from. It was packed with locals so you could tell it was going to be good food. When we got back I slept.
The next day was mess, me and Nick got up thinking it was half 9/10 oclock, turns out it was half 8, nice one, was shattered! After eating we chilled in the pool, played boys vs. girls. T'was damn funny. Over the next 3 days we went to the local shopping mall, got our malay numbers, ate alot, met some very nice malay girls Dee-Dee and her sister, both 20yrs. :P. On Tuesday it was time to split up and leave to our individual projects. Rather emotional for some as we 15 all separated, knowing we wouldnt see eachother for atleast a few months. Me, Nick, Helana and Ellie were the last ones to leave from Seremban2, we left at 1pm. We were the lucky ones as we were heading for KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre). We stayed here for one night in a very posh hotel, right next door to the MARA headquarters. At around 6 oclock we ventured out into KL to eat. We got told that there was a shopping mall nearby so we went to find it, us being us, we ended up in a market which we thought was the shopping mall, it was small, crowded, had about 5678 floors but only one place open for food. It was so cheap for the meal, it came to around RM36 for the 4 of us, in sterling that's around £8. We later got told that the propper mall was behind the market. ohwell. Marwati, a lady who works for MARA, took us to the Petronas Towers. They are the two very tall towers in KL which have a bridge inbetween. We didnt go up them but the view was still pretty spectacular. At the base of the towers is a large but shallow pond with fountains in the middle, colourful lights brightened the water and to the sound of 'My Heart Will Go On' (Titanic) themetune, the danced around and gave an amazing show! We ate at a food court then went back to the hotel.
After sleeping like a bowss in the double bed in the hotel, the next day we had a meeting with a head of MARA about stuff. Around an hour later we departed to our individual schools, we could all fit in a mini bus, 6 of us due to two teachers being with us, but negating comfort, so we separated. Me and Nick on a coach with a teacher from our school, Helana and Ellie in the mini bus. we said our goodbyes and off we went to our school. A cool 6/7 hours later we arrived! It was dark so we couldnt really see where we were within the school, but we were told that our house wasnt ready in the meeting, as it had no electricity, so we were expecting the sick bay commode. At around 9pm me and Nick were in bed, about to sleep when we got a knock at the door. It was Mr Rosnan, the head of student affairs! He asked us out for a coffee and some food, of course we accepted. I had time to change before we opened the door, Nick didnt, so he went out in his pj's. Was actually HILARIOUS, was dieing in the car!
The next morning (we are now on Thursday 6th) we wokeup at around 6:45 to meet Mr Rosnan in his office at 7:10. We talked about the school, got our sign in and out cards so we can punch in and out, its pretty cool and introduced ourselves in Rollcall. Rollcall is a bit like an assembly except it is the whole school, outside, stood up in 'boxes', so like a 10x7 square of students, and there are 6 of these, something like that. There is around 500 students so introducing ourselves to kids in English, not knowing their level of english, was daunting, but they are so good at english, even the 13yr olds! After Rollcall we were walked round by Mr Rosnan to the different departments, being introduced to the teachers. Being primarily english promoters in the school we we left in the english department office, with the teachers. There are 3 student teachers who studied in New Zealand and are young, 24 ish, and speak english like me so get on with them v well :). We helped out in a couple of lessons, mainly the students asking me and nick questions. The days for the students here are very long, they get up at 5:30am for prayer then stop after preperation classes (hmwk classes) finish, about 11:30pm, but they won't sleep until later, so very long days. Me and Nick on the otherhand will get up at 6:30....not exactly preferred but if we want to eat we have to. Rollcall is at 7:15am so have to be there for that. The weekend in the state i am in is Friday - Saturday so that thursday we slept at 10pm and awoke at 10am, was the best sleep I have ever had, Friday was a chiller day, played pokemon, ate, and relaxed.
Till next time!
