Gillingham, UK
The picture isn't quite where I am, but we'll just pretend. Chatham isn't very photogenic, anyway.
I went for my interview today for the Leonardo da Vinci scheme. Hopefully, I'm going to be going to Bordeaux for about four months, to work in some kind of hotel or bar. It sounds like such a good opportunity for me. The chance to practice my French, meet new people and get a tan. Ace! Everything's free, as well! I only have to pay for my food, and Twin provide my accommodation, flight and everything else! Dead good. I'm just waiting to find out what the catch is!
So anyway. My interview was in Lewisham. Perhaps the most scummy place on earth? And that's saying something, considering I'm from Medway! I got the train up there, and sort of wandered about the High Street for a while. I have never felt so out of place, with my neat hair and my smart interview clothes! It was mental.
The interview itself was in an office block, three storeys up from the street. I was actually a little bit late for the interview because I didn't factor in the time it would take to walk up six steep flights of stairs. But I made it there alive in the end! The man who interviewed me in English was called Dai, and he was a really nice Welsh man. He kept going, "good on you for being so independent at 18!" and checking that I would be alright with sharing a room with someone. It all went pretty well, I think. Another lady (called Claire?) interviewed me in French. MY GOD that was painful. I kept forgetting words and getting nervous. How am I going to cope in France?!
Obviously, I really, really hope I get the place. It sounds too good to be true, and it gives me a chance to consider my options for uni, now that Bristol don't want me (boo, they're crap).
