Coca jungle tours!
The man we booked the tour through picked us up at our hotel early and we stored our bags with him and met our guide Ki-Ky aka Eric... Lol
Our first stop was at a fish farm which had gigantic Amazon river fish of some sort. The guy gave mom some meat and told her to get close to the water and feed the fish which almost took her arm off... Yikes!
Ki-Ky's family happened to be driving by and they stopped in to catch our dinner for the night by throwing a fishing net into the tilapia pond, it was pretty cool.
Then we headed to a Kichwa community where we got our faces painted.... Again! We bought some traditional crafts and saw some cool birds and a monkey!
Then it was a 2km walk down the road to the start of the waterfall trail. Mom did really well on the trail but it was tough so our giant guide who probably weighed about 230 pounds piggybacked mom up the most difficult parts of the trail and didn't even break a sweat.... He did lose his balance once and almost lost mom in the jungle!!! We did make it to the waterfall which was extremely refreshing and even drank the water from it because we ran out of our bottle and the guide didn't have any.... But he said "oh yeah it's safe".....
After we returned to the road we got a ride to the river where we waited for our traditional canoe to arrive. The boat ride down the river was a bit of a hair-raising experience as we bumped over rocks and almost hit a giant one!!!
After we made it back to solid ground more or less dry, we headed off to Ki-Ky's home where our thatched roof cabana was. It was right on the river where two Rivers combined, the one in front of our cabin was really clean and the one joining it was really dirty and watching the water come together was pretty cool. After meeting the family and the pet monkey and guinea pigs, I went for a swim in the river and mom sat on the rocks.
After chilling in the hammocks for a while we had dinner with the family and tried some traditional wine which was quite good!
After dinner as a giant storm was headed our way we went for a night walk and saw caimans in the wild. We managed to make it back to our cabana before the storm hit but it didn't rain that hard and didn't affect the night jungle sounds too much! Mom got a proper dose of the jungle today!
