Hello Everyone,
It has been such a long time since we have wrote an entry so thought we better update you all on our adventures.
Well, We have been to Laos, Vietnam and are currently in Cambodia so I will tell you a few things about each place.
We arrived in Luang Prabang after a very long road and boat trip that took a much longer time than we expected, nearly double the time ! We spent 3 nights there and managed to do lots of eating (the bakeries in Luang Prabang were very nice) and some sight seeing, taking a walking tour to see the major temples of the City. Luang Prabang was very beautiful City with many French influences in the architecture and food. We also went to see the most spectacular waterfalls we have seen so far, the water was very clear and a gorgeous shade of bluey green. Next we took a bus to Vang Vieng whcih was much more of a relaxed backpacker town. Here we chilled out next to the river, sitting in hamocks and reading lots. We also did the famous Tubing, floating down the river in inflated tractor tires, and stopping at all the bars on the way to the end. Jord particularly enjoyed the zip wires, like a giant swing very high up so he could go crashing into the water, I didn't try it, thought it might be too embarassing if a did i massive belly flop ! Next we went to the Capital Vientiane where we had to arange all our Visa's and flights to Vietnam. We went to all the major sights in the City, such as the Gold Stupa that you can see in our pictures.
Vietnam was next, we took a flight to Hanoi and were greated with some not so nice weather ! It was very cold, and we were not prepared for it after so long in the sunshine. The city itself was very hectic, the roads and trafic were the craziest we have seen so far, with basically no room on the pavements to walk as the bikes will drive anywhere to beat the traffic, including the pavements. We took a 3 day trip from here to Halong Bay and Cat Ba Islands that we enjoed very much, the sights were very special, and the people we met on the trip were very nice. From Hanoi we went to Hue on a 13 hour overnight train which was better than we expected. We only spent a night at Hue due to the rain and bad weather, then we took a bus to Hoi An which was a lovely old town that we enjoyed very much. We stayed here for 4 nights, taking a trip to see My Son (see pictures) and all the other sights of the Town. From here we went to the beach town of Nha Trang where the sun was shining ! We took some time out here to chill out on the beach, and do some Island hopping. Next to Ho Chi Minh City, the Capital where we got better educated on the war in Vietnam, we visted the War Museum and also the tunnels that were built in Cu Chi by the VC.
Another long bus trip to Cambodia, where we have visited Phnom Penh already, we found it hard to find accomodation due to the Chinese New Year and we are now in Siem Reap looking forward to going to see Angkor Wat and the many Temples here tomorrow ! Next stop is the white beaches of Thailand and a full moon party..........!
