Koh Pra Thong - Kuraburi: Catalogue making, dolphins and a hot shower!
Olivia headed off early in the morning for a bird watching walk (and by early she was up and about at 5.15am!), but Michael and I decided that our vantage point from the dining table at Anh's house offered us just as good a view of the local fauna, as a bird flew into view and a few butterflies fluttered past, than we would have had by walking for several hours. It was all very civilised.
Then we headed over to the community centre and split into 2 groups to create a catalogue for the tie-dye group and build some more permanent stoves for them to "cook" the tie-dye on. With little equipment to build the stoves with, Michael took charge and the others drifted over to help with the catalogues. From there the community came together once again for a feedback session on our experiences with them, which was a constructive and positive meeting. We could probably have talked for another hour but lunchtime was calling!!
After lunch with Anh we went to another house to learn how to make Thai dessert - a delicious concoction of palm sugar, grated coconut, flour and coconutty gloop all wrapped in a banana leaf and steamed - wonderful. From there we had a few minutes to say goodbye to Anh before heading back to the pier to board the boats for the mainland before the tide became unwieldy.
The boat ride back was far more pleasant than heading there - Liz and Louise had a go at driving the boat whilst the rest of us relaxed and took in the scenery. Suddenly a splash alerted us to a pod of dolphins cruising in the bay for fish. We doubled back and cut the engine and spent 10 minutes coo-ing over these magnificent creatures breaching the surface and diving down again.
Once back at the dock we stopped at 7-11 for snacks and soft drinks before heading back to the Greenview Resort for a hot shower and air-conditioned rooms. After a delicious dinner including cocktails - albeit being bombarded by flying insects throughout, Bodhi and his friend Bao came to pick us up in their pick-up truck to head to Bodhi's house for a few drinks. Replete with Singha and Chang beers we propped up our feet and discussed everything under the sun! Bodhi furnished us with mangosteen cosmopolitans - various different incarnations of which got stronger and stronger as we progressed. He eventually "perfected" the recipe but I do wonder if we had had so much vodka that none of us knew what was good by then!
