Hello everyone, I am in LA. It has been so long since I wrote one of these things, mainly because in Fiji it was so hard and slow to use, so I am sorry everyone who i didnt contact back, it was not intentional.
I should probably finish New Zealand first. After Queenstwon we simply went to a few places for one night, I cant remember the name of these places, lol, but I will ammend it when I get home so that at least I will have it in my memory.lol. Christchurch was our last proper stop before we flew back up to Auckland to go to Fiji. Christchurch was nice, when we were there it was really hot weather so obviously that made it even nicer. The little market was on at the time, even more perfect. I don't think we really did much there except I was busy looking for this bottle of wine for my dad, it was his bithday you see. I know this is boring to hear but it was a bottle of cloudy bay te koko, 2004, I want to remember and seeing as it is my blog....
So after New Zealand, which was really cool by the way, we flew to Fijii. Andy's parents and mine had already got there and had booked us into a hostel for a night before we got a ferry over to the island to meet them. As soon as we had to sort something out for ourselves we learnt of a new saying, 'Fiji Time'. They literally take ages to do anything and everything. Andy and I had about half an hour to catch the boat, 15 by the time we got to the front of the queue and we had a bit of a problem. Instead of sort it out though, the woman just turned round and started putting the blinds up, they fell down again about 3 times but carried on sorting them out, ignoring us completely. It was so surreal. After that though we got to the island safely and saw our parents again for the first time in 5 months. It was so nice, if not unbelievable to see our parents on a desert island. You always imagine the reunion in a rainy Heathrow airport, not the boiling hot sun of Manta Ray island. We did loads of things that you do in Fiji, swim, drink and sleep but the things that stood out which we did in Manta Ray was game fishing and diving. Game fishing we caught 4 masisve tunas and a mahi mahi. They all weigh about 15kg, growing to about my size...bit smaller than. We nearly, so nearly, caught a Marlin, about 70kg. It hit the line trying to kill the hook, thinking it was a squid. The guy said that they are really rare to catch so that would have been good.
After Manta Ray we moved on up North of the Yahaways, I think I forgot that too, and stayed in a resort called Otto and Fannies, where we visited the blue lagoon which was amazing. The weather was so nice and by the sounds of it had only started when we got there. After Otto and Fannies we went to Oarsmans bay, where we learnt the Boula dance, drank Cava with the locals and I made a bracelet. The woman loved me so much that she made me nappkin rings, a tablecloth and a ring I have on right now. I said I would marry her if she was 50 years younger.
Next stop after my parents was Beach Comber, where the dorm holds 120 people and it parties all night long. It was so different from all the other places I had been cos everyone just drank all night long whereas everywhere else people hit the sack about 8. It was a nice change. This is so rushed but there is not much to write about Fiji, it is amazing and so nice, 2 weeks is the perfect chill out but it is quite boring in the day sometimes, I mean quite repetitive. I could tell you about the books I read but that would be even more suicidal reading.
Mana island was next up, the cheap backpackers resort. It is divided by a guard post, who apparently flash you with torches to scare you away. The resort which is fenced off is owned by Japanese and apparently when filming castaway, Tom Hanks stayed there. Mana was nice, the food was small portions but that is to be expected for the price. The people there were pretty heavy drinkers, but then the weather was so bad. It rained pretty much all 4 days I was there so we learnt a game called president and played it to death. I also learnt a really good card trick form a guy called Mcky, Italian boy.
Bit bored of writing about Fiji now so I'll write about LA....next time in San Francisco.
Love everyone. see you soon.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
