Very rough sea last night, but we arrived in Cartagena, Columbia this morning early, so all is now calm. Very interesting place. Lots of history. Our dear old Sir Francis Drake raided it in 15** (whatever) and burnt some of it down, but spared the rest on payment of a ransom. We took a mini bus tour for 3 hours, with a guide, for $10. Excellent value. Lots of poverty in the outer town, but the old walled city is beautiful, and no traffic allowed.Weather is hot, but breezy, like nice day in Florida. Can't write too much. The dear old QE2 charges 50 cents a minute to use your own computer on line. Bit of a rip off I think. That was Sunday. It's now Monday. Last night was calm and we are now going through the Panama Canal. Very interesting. We climb 26 metres through three locks into a very large lake, then through three more locks down to the Pacific.Takes all day, but some good scenery, and lots of shipping.Got into an argument with a guy who insisted that the Atlantic and Pacific are at different levels. I asked what happens at the Horn where they meet. Is there some kind of Niagra Falls? If so do ships whitewater down, and how to they get up going the other way? Leap the falls like salmon?
