Mon 22 Jan. You may have read wildly exaggerated newspaper or TV reports aboutNorovirus on board QE2. Yes, there has been some but it's no big deal. By taking sensible precautions and following the ship's procedures it can be avoided. We are OK so far and we only know of one other person personally who got it and she was confined to her cabin for two days.We actually benefited from it. We had a half day tour booked for Los Angeles at $49 each. The Captain decided to have the ship sanitized and we all had to go ashore for the day, so everyone was given a complimentary all day tour + $20 each for lunch. So our $98 was refunded which gave us $138 and a good day out.The tour bus took us through LA to Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive, then on to Santa Monica for a three hour stop. Beautiful place, fabulous beaches, and then an excellent lunch in a great sea food restaurant which, incidentally cost rather more than the $40 we were given. But it was wonderful. After that it was on to Venice, a kind of arty crafty place but a bit tatty. So far the cruise has been excellent. Great food, first class entertainment, and lots of interesting places to visit. A lot of passengers disembarked at LA but an equal number of newbies boarded, so we still have a full ship. I think about 900 people are going all the way round, as we are. The weather is cooler now that we have come north from Mexico, but still warm and bright and sunny.
