We arrived in Fiji early evening. We were collected by someone fro our hostel and taken straight there. We were staying at Beach Escape Villas in Nadi. The hostel was lovely, with little huts for our accommodation. They were basic but clean and comfortable and the staff seemed really nice.
We spend our firs day In Fijii at the beach. It was a really hot day and we were enjoying the heat for the first time in a while!!! The beach was good, although we knew that we would be seeing much nicer beaches on our 7 day Island tour that we were starting the next day.
In the afternoon we went back to the hostel and chilled out by the pool. We ate out that night and got our bags read for our trip the next day.
We started our Island trip on Monday 25th August. We took the boat to the Yasawa group of Islands and eventually arrived at our first stop which was Coral View resort, where we were spending the next two days. We spent the first day relaxing and sunbathing. We went for a swim in the sea, it was crystal clear and you could see coral and tropical fish. That evening we had dinner (on our trip breakfast, lunch and dinner are included). After dinner the staff did some fijian dancing and then we all had a go at the famous Bula dance. Then it was time for limbo. Jonny was actually really good and got into the final. We finished the night by sitting on the hammock listening to the I-pod and taking in the amazing views.
The next morning we arranged to go to the Blue Lagoon to do snorkeling. The boat dropped us off and we put our flippers and masks on and got in the sea. We seen the most amazing tropical fish and coral. Carley was a little scared at first due to her fear of fish but this was soon forgotten about when she realised how beautiful it was under there. We spent the morning at the Blue Lagoon and were collected in time for lunch. That afternoon we continued snorkeling at our resort and relaxed in the sun. That evening there was a bingo night. We were VERY close to wining however it wasn't to be!!
The next day (Wednesday 27th August) we checked out of Coral View and got back on the boat and headed for the Wana Taki cruise for a night. When we got on the boat the sea was a bit choppy and Jonny felt a little sea sick. Once he had taken a sea sickness tablet he felt much better.
That afternoon we went out on a small boat to an area to do some snorkeling. Once in the sea we were all swimming when Danielle thought she heard someone shout shark. At first we thought it was joke but the realised that this was no joke and there was a Shark near us in the sea. With this Carey and Danielle got straight in the little boat, however Jonny and Steven went for a closer look and actually managed to get close to it. The guide had said that it was fine to get close to them as they were not dangerous, he said they were vegetarian sharks however we were not sure about that. Jonny said it was amazing to be that close to a shark, he wished he had an underwater camera.
That night we enjoyed dinner on board the Wana Taki and after tea the crew played guitar and sang a few local songs. Then we played some games. One of these being Crab Olympics. Everyone picked a crab from a pot (they all had numbers on there shells) then the crabs were put in the middle of a circle and the first one out the circle was the winner. This was done in knock out staged and both of ours didn't do to well however Danielle's won the whole thing and she one some playing cards. We went to bed before this and managed to sleep ok although the sea was a little rough.
The next day we woke early and had breakfast. Then Jonny and Steven hired a Kayak and went off to explore some nearby islands. Carley and Danielle got a little boat to drop them at a nearby boat and spent the morning sunbathing on that. We arrived back on the boat for lunch and got collected soon after for our transfer to our next stop.
Our next stop was Kuata Island (Thursday 28th August). This island had a different feel to it and felt much more like a village. It was full of smiling children all happy to see you. They were amazed by our cameras and enjoyed posing for pictures and taking pictures of us. We spent that evening reading on a hammock and then got ready for dinner. After dinner we were treated to some more Fijian dancing including a fire dance. We sat up for a few hours chatting with some other travelers before going to bed.
The next morning we woke and had breakfast. We then sat on the beach for the morning. After lunch we had booked onto a Village visit. We got a small boat to a local village. We were shown the chiefs house and the church and walked around. It was really small, but all the residents seemed like one big family and all seemed so happy even though they didn't have much. Before we got back on the boat some of the locals showed us some jewelery that they had made and we bought a few bits from them.
Next stop was to watch a local rugby match. Even though we aren't really into rugby we really enjoyed it. We were amazed at how they didn't even wear shin pads and some didn't wear socks. They were really good at it though and it was a really fun afternoon.
We got back just in time to have a shower before dinner and then enjoyed watching some dancing and participating in the Bula dance once again, we will be pros at this by the time we leave Fiji.
The next day we woke up quite early as Jonny was off to swim/feed the sharks. They all got in a little boat and went out to the middle of the sea. Jonny got in the water and the guides started to feed the sharks. At one point there were about 9 sharks around the boat and were close enough to touch. Jonny stroked a couple of them they were that close. They were about 2 meters long but again they were friendly sharks and they were safe to swim with.
Jonny got back to the Island and we had lunch, then we were collected by the boat to take us to the final island, South Sea Island.
We arrived on South Sea Island at about 5pm (Saturday 30th August). This was by far the smallest Island we had visited, you could walk from one side to the other in about 5 minutes, it was really amazing. We had dinner and played some games.
The next day was our final day on the Islands before we headed back to the mainland. We chilled out on the island, again enjoying the snorkeling and went on a small submarine.
We were collected at about 5pm to head back to the main Island. We have loved our time on the islands and really feel as though we have seen real paradise islands. We will definitely be coming back again in the future.
We arrived back on the main Island and headed back to where we started our Fijian adventure, Beach Escape Villas in Nadi. We spend the next two nights here and really like the hostel, pool and bar.
On Tuesday 2nd September we left Nadi to visit the Coral Coast. We arrived around 3pm and were shown to our bungalows. The four of us had one with a kitchen which was really nice and meant we cook cook some of our own meals so we headed to town to get some shopping.
We spent the next few days relaxing by the pool (thats all we have seemed to do in Fiji) and enjoyed the tropical sunshine.
We have loved being in Fiji, the weather the people and the places we have visited have made it a brilliant experience and we will most definitely be back for a holiday in the future.
Next we are heading down-under and first stop is Cairns.
