Day 7 (Monday 23rd October 2006)
Today we snorkelled the excellent reefs off the islands of Koh Chang. It was incredible. If you could've given Marc unlimited air supply, he'd have stayed there forever! The journey down to the boat was funny...Marc hanging off the back of the landrover as Sarah's seat hung off its hinges! From there, a rickity old boat took us to four snorkel sites.
Before so much as dipping a toe, from the top of the boat we witnessed flying fish soaring across the ocean, as well as eel like fish propelling themselves out of the water as they fled from our speeding vessel...how cool!
Anchoring in fairly deep water, Sarah bless her conquered her fears and dived straight in. Together, over the four snorkels, we saw a whole host of amazing fish and corals including: countless multi-coloured wrasse, various munching parrotfish, fusilier fish, numerous damsels and chromis', many butterflyfish including wimple fish and copperbands, angelfish, a handsome volitans lionfish, hunting jacks (doing that shadow thing), skunk anemonefish and hosts, cleaner wrasse, soldier and squirrelfish, squid, long toms, huge shoals, amazing sea cucumbers, wierd worm thing, brain and fan corals, gorgonian, sponges, clams, urchins, anemones and christmas tree worms...but the greatest find of the day was a mask and snorkel laying on the sea bed...that solves that problem then!
The fish life on the reefs was unlike anything Marc had encountered before, let alone Sarah. The sgt majors were practically spilling inside our masks. Koh Chang is a marine national park after all, but we were a little disappointed with the lack of education and guidance when snorkelling the reefs...but I suppose it's tough when dealing with a million different nationalities. Also there seemed to be about 900 boats turning up on each reef at any given time (we're being sarcastic Kaileah), and as a result there was quite a bit of coral damage. But all in all that does not detract from what was an unbelievable day out...(check out photos now!)
WELL DONE SPARTANS!!!!!!!!
