Well, am finally here at the last destination on the GAP southern cross trip. Its not sunk in yet that the end is here, well at least in South America, but im still living the dream!
Rio was not the happy, sunny, carnival place i expected. It was dull and raining. Fingers crossed that a few days on Illha Grande, an island an hour off the coast, would be better. Nope......still the same, but its a relaxed place where we will have time to party and explore a little.
We, the boys, spent most of the time hiking over trails on the island, flicking from beach to beach trying to the find the nudist......i mean surfers beach, for a swim in the ocean. The waves were incredible and the rip currents strong.
Anyhow three days later, and still raining we finally head to the city and heart of Rio carnival. It has definate ambiance, beautiful women and plenty of sleezy geezers with impressive chest wigs. We spend a couple of days just seeing the usual tourist things, sugar loaf mountain, christ statue, Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, which were impressive. Must be amazing in the summer months.
Anyhow got some amazing photos to share eventually, easier said than done putting the photos up, and time is money of course, which is also dwindling fast.
Had the final meal with the group and said our goodbyes, a little sad but hope to keep in touch. Got a few days to kill in Santiago, Chile on my way to NZ but not much there apparently.
Speak soon.
