We are now enjoying the very modern and exciting city of Seoul. I'm not too sure what sights, if any, we'll see but we definitely plan to do some shopping to replace our badly depleted wardrobes! We continued our couchsurfing experience here with two different stays. The first couple of nights we stayed with Hawkthor and his wife, slap bang in the centre, very close to Tian'anmen Square. The final couple of days we stayed with Li Fei and her family. Hawk and his wife are both engineers but their place is small and very basic. Their location meant that it was very easy for us to stroll around some lovely old streets, have a wander around Tian'anmen Square...

The purpose of our visit to Datong is twofold: first, it's an obvious stopover on our way to Beijing; second, to visit the Yungang Caves. We didn't expect much from this place but we were pleasantly surprised. The place seems to have a bit more room to breathe, the air is a bit cleaner, the people seem very friendly and more laid back. We wondered the ancient streets with Jason from Hong Kong, browsing the market and watching some old men play Go. We climbed up to the Black Dragon Temple for a look round. By this stage old temples look much the same. The three of us spent the evening playing cards and having some beer. This felt so nice and normal. But it's early to bed as we have to catch the 6 o'clock bus next morning.
