Wow! This journey is wonderful. Gentle, relaxing cruise along the most dramatic and beautiful section on the Yangtze.
Actually sunbathing right now... can you believe it! The weather is lovely now...finally a chance to strip down to shorts and t-shirt and get my flip flops out.
Our fellow passengers are a mix of Chinese and westerners. Our table has a nice bunch on it: a Canadian couple on the way to their son's wedding in the Philippines and a British couple heading to Shenzen for their son's marriage. The young couple soon to be wed complete our group.
Food is great, cabin so comfy...this is no backpacking trip anymore!!!
Day 2 of the cruise: we joined a small ferry to cruise along the Lesser 3 Gorges, then a sampan (small wooden boat) the cruise the mini gorges. These are just as, if not more, beautiful than their larger counterparts, but much narrower.
The evening's entertainment on board was once again marvellous. The first night there was a costume show, highlighting fashions throughout the different Chinese dynasties. This evening was a cabaret. All entertainment is performed by a very talented crew and everyone of the passengers is impressed.
Looking forward to another day on the river tomorrow...
Visiting the Ghost City of Fengdu on day 3 was fascinating with its monsters and depiction of Hell. In the afternoon me, KC, Chris and Jan, Himei and Phil, Carol and the Canadian lady all had a Mah Jong lesson. We were hooked instantly and very quickly there was a competitive edge to it. Would definitely love to play more but definitely not with Chinese who would gladly take ally money!
The evening's farewell banquet was very pleasant, especially with the pretty waitresses all dressed up! The surprise of the evening came when everyone sang Happy Birthday to me in English and Chinese and there was a birthday cake on every table. I even got a present. It's not actually my birthday for a couple of days but it was a lovely gesture.
We stayed up late with Patrick and Carol and Mike and Pat, drinking wine and chatting. We all dressed up in costume for a laugh too.

Rick This sounds excellent - a real chance to put your feet up in luxury, enjoying the sights, and the evenings' entertainment. It's not like you to be so competetive :-) Happy birthday for Wednesday Rick, Ali, Jordan and Charis
