Santiago de Compostella
This week has been a little frustrating. The weather has become a lot poorer with a lot of rain and cloud. It is also a lot cooler. Last night it rained again, this time during the night so I awoke at 5.30 am and could not get back to sleep. The heavy rain pounded on the roof of the van until I got fed up and made a cup of tea.
We were planning to leave this morning so we got away early and headed for Coruna. The drive along the coast continued to please as it was toll free and the views were terrific. The northern spaniosh coastline is certainly spaectacular with many cliffs and small coves and beaches. The area appears to be very popular with surfers as well. The day was quite windy and almost head on to us so this meant it has cost us a lot more in fuel terms. Today was the first time, I think, that we have seen the modern windmills and in great numbers. Coupled to this was the fact that the road is constantly rising over the hills so the engine was having to work hard.
Everything, almost, that we wanted to do today, failed to work. Firstly, we need to try and find some 'autogas' or as we call it LPG. Despite instructions from various stations as well as the Internet, we could not find any outlet. This meant we wasted time, as well as driving up and down the same road. After abandoning that search we then set of looking for our chosen campsite. Again, despite the instructions it could not be found. Satnav, GPS and even road signs failed to deliver us to their front door.
We finally gave up, abandoned Coruna and drove to Santiago, a further 50 kms. Finding the campsite proved to be troublesome, but we eventually found it, even though it is a little more expensive than we had hoped.
So we are now sat in Santiago for a few days and will visit Coruna by train some time this weekend.
A cup of tea certainly tasted good this afternoon

Richard I hope you enjoy Santiago. Watch out for the swinging bell! We stayed near Oviedo a few years ago and the countryside is certainly beautiful.
