Today Mark and i went to canterbury by bus. We got off to a late start but we ended up in Canterbury about 12;30.
first stop was a bit of lunch. we went to Morellies which is up a little stairway (or a even smaller lift if you like to take it) down a small lane in canterbury. Last time i went there i was about 6 years old. The staircase hasnt changed at all and the terace was just as i rememberred. The shops round the edge of the quaint terace were all that had changed... even the chairs were the same... Only now i had grown and could reach the floor... the chairs seemed alot more comfy!
Mark and i got lunch which was for him a Baked potato with tuna and salad and for me a motserella chibatta roll with salad. Both very yummy. we also had 2 glasses of iced tea.
The weather was lovely the sun beamed down as we sat and enjoyed the atmosphere. The buzz of canterbury was there but in the background. we were nice and secluded so that the buzz wasnt too much! The company was great and all in all it was a relaxing lovely aptmosphere.
We then headed up town and down yet more small lanes. We popped into a organic shop, a bit like a supermarket. Mark brought a magazine and we continued down a few more lanes where we found the punting company.
We must have got there on perfect time as by the time we brought tickets and I'd sugured my capuchino it was time to board. We enjoyed a lovely peaceful journey up the river and back and then the guide kindley took us up the other way as well. The guide we had was amazing and the best comedian i've seen. When up the other end of the river we grounded (oops) after being jeered by some local kids and the guide moving from one end of the boat to another.... pussing his big stick into the river bed to move the boat (which only seemed to be interested in going in the oposite direction!) he finally managed to get us off this big rock which the boat had launched itself upon. The journey back was much more speedy as the current was flowing briskley. We disembarked and went to surch for some warmth.
That was the shops... we done a few and then headed back to the other end of town and to the Dane john gardens. To my amazement I managed to walk up the mound! Mark and i surveyed the city and then headed down.
We was going to take a look at the castle ruins but it had closed early, We carried on walking and came accross a church yard and so carried on walking. We have walked a lot (and i mean alot) today we ended up at the playing field and had a go at a roundabout! CRAZY i know but it was good fun!
We headed back as it had been a long day and i was flagging some. We jumped on the bus and returned home.
it has been a lovely day together.
