Our flight left Luang Prabang on Loa airlines heading for Bangkok. The plane was a toilet tube with propellers and the life jacket and floatation device was the cushion of your seat- good job we were flying overland. We landed in Bangkok to connect to fly to Phuket. Bangkok Airport was amazing very modernised in comparison to other developing parts of Asia. I purchased a Burger King whooper meal and maltesers and loved every bite. Glad to have some stodge. We made it to Phuket by 3pm and checked into our hostel. We didnt even get to the hostel before someone was hassling us to buy tickets as the taxi took a ''break'' conviently at a booking office. We shrugged it off and made it to the dead twon of Phuket its a Sunday and everywhere is closed. We attempt to find the night market but stumpled across a fruit stall. So i had a paddy and admittted defeat and dragged Rachel home. We were walking back and someone set some fireworks off down the other end of the road and Rachel ran for cover (actually ran) thinking we were being assinated. I ran after her to catch her before she ended running out Phuket altogether.
The next day in the afternoon we get out of Phuket (woohoo) and take the ferry to Koh Phi Phi. Two hours on the boat and we arrive in Phi Phi. We walked to find a nice guesthouse and checked in. It was hard work carrying my now nearly 20kg backpack and 10kg day sack in the blistering heat but we got there in the end. We realised later that there was a water waste site right next door with a sewage stream running under the road. So there were some interesting smells lingering around. We had some yummy thai dinner and leave the resturant realising two doors down a shop was dishing out free food of noodles and curry. So we had seconds. Koh Phi Phi is very much a party place with lots of toursits and a big backpacker scene. We head out with our bucket of drink to the beach bars. We have a few drinks watching the fire show and then danced the night away on the beach.
After quite a drunken night i have to leave Rachel in bed for the day as she is a state. I have a walk around the town of island and to the beach which is stunning. The Island itself is really beautiful and the only way to get around is on foot or by a taxi boat. I go back to the guesthouse to find Rachel still were I left her and go out for a another yummy Thai dinner.
Next day we escorted from the guesthouse to the Pier to catch the long boat for half day trip of the island. We board the boat with 20 other people and stop off for a snorkel at Shark Point (no sharks seen but lots of fishies). We then chug onwards to Bamboo Island and realise our half day trip is actually a full day trip (bonus!). We have lunch and a chill on the beautiful beach. Next stop is another snorkel where i get in to have a look at more fishies. As im heading back to the boat i realise Rachel and the boat boy are throwing donuts at me attracting swarms of fish. I therefore freak out and swim like an olmypian back to the boat. I think the rest of the people thought id seen a shark but no it was an angry nemo. Next is the terrible Monkey beach as we pull up to the shore we can see the little critters terrorising the tourists and fighting among themselves. With that i should of stayed on the boat however we climbed off and within one minute of minding my own business on the beach a big furball monkey must of thought i was a banana and came straight for me. Before i knew it grabbed my leg and took a bite out of my leg then ran away. I then hurried back to the boat with panic that i was going to die of Rabiesx. Luckily the money i spent on my jabs turned out to be worth it and i think i will survive. A trip to ther medical centre and a couple more injections to be on the safe side and i dont think i will start foaming at the mouth any time soon. Before we get back to to the mainland we go to Phi Phi Ley and chug into Maya Bay the famous scenes from the Beach. As we step onto the Island a thunder storm rolls in and it starts to chuck it down. Other than that it is a very beautiful place. In the evening we go to a bar with a boxing ring to watch the Thai boxing and watch people kicking seven bells out of each other.
Breakfast on our last day was at Little Britain Cafe for a proper sausage sarnie. This is much needed fuel for our walk up the hill to the viewpoint. At the top you can see across the island with the thin stecth of land in the middle and the twin bays on either side. Its a lovely view and well worth the sweaty climb. We had to leave Phi Phi the following day and i will inform you of our adventures in Koh Tao. Love lots xxxxx
