Well we depart phnom pehn and take the day bus trip to seim Reap. its a long journey of about 7hrs on a not so great bus. As we plodded along we picked up more passangers on rout, who with no seats left started to pull out little plastic chairs and progress down the aisle, quite funny with a row of grown cambodian men sat along the bus on the mini plastic chairs. We stopped of for a refreshment break and rachel being a tad strange decided to purchase the delicate market food of deep fried taranchula. With the selection being of deep fried cockroach (Yuk), spiders and beetles it was hard for her to choose and after licking its leg and likening it to kebab i decided to pass and stick to the safer bet of pineapple. She never did eat the spider but a lady across from us on the bus spent the remaining journey munching on her cockroachs like they were a bag of crisp! We landed in Seim Reap, a very touristy town that is basically the gateway to the magnificant Angkor Wat temples. You cant comprahend the vast scale these temples were built on all those hundreds of years ago. The main Temple area must covers plus 10 square miles and unless you actually see this brilliant place then i dont think any descriptions i give and even the photos can do it justice. We purchase a 3 day pass and with our tuk tuk driver in hand head out on the first day the see some of the temples. You will probably be familiar with the fact that Tomb Raider was filmed in one of the temples and it realy is a cracker. The main sight with this temple is the fact that nature has taken over and there are trees that are hundreds of years old entageling themselves around the ruins with there roots cascading down the walls of the temple buildings. Some of the temples are in better states than others but even so there is preservation of all the intricate stone carvings and the high behive shaped towers. its hard to take it all in and after visits to around 10 of the temples on the first day in blistering heat we were glad to be back at the hotel and a dip in the pool. The next day of the pass we got up at the crack of dawn and with our sleepy tuk tuk driver head for the sunrise over Angkor Wat Temple at 4.30am. We seemed to be there before anybody else and after over an hour in the pitch black we started to see the sky become light. The sun wasnt visible over the temple untill 7am, but it was worth it. We spent the rest of the morning looking at yet more temples but each one is uniquie in its own way so its worth checking them out. We are finished at around lunchtime and have a wonder around the markets and town. We have a lazy morning and after some lunch of coffee and cake (Yum) we go back to the temples to watch the sunset. Its very busy and not much of a sunset as the sky is very muggy. We head back and have some yummy dinner and one drink slowly led into another and then we started on the buckets at the Angkor What? Bar and finished up with a bit of a messy night but good fun. Lazy morning and lazy day around the pool was enough for our last day after the busy time at the temples. We fly over to Laos tomorrow so will let you know what delights that has to hold.
