Our trip into Italy didn't start to well. Firstly we needed petrol and pretty much every petrol station in Italy seems to be closed. Peak tourist season and they close the petrol stations? Thats how the italians do it. Secondly after an unsuccessful stop at one petrol station, jolly left the petrol flap open and the petrol cap at the closed petrol station. We of course didn't realise this until we were at least 30 mins drive away and had no idea how to find our way back to our petrol cap. So now we were in desperate need of petrol and a petrol cap!
Our first stop in Italy was Verona. A pretty and romantic city, the setting for Romeo and Juliet. Our first stop was Juliets' famous balcony where you take pictures with a statue of her and write love notes on the wall. From there we roamed the cobble stone streets admiring the multitude of beautiful buildings, statues and squares with gelato in hand.
We then moved on to Florence which has a very impressive church (see the photos) and a lot of marble statues.
When the afternoon sun was getting too hot we headed for a lake we'd seen half way between our camp ground and the city for a relaxing afternoon reading, swimming and generally soaking up some rays.
