Hello all,
I've decided that I love London and for a really bizarre reason. I know the streets are old and once had horse drawn carts on them, but for some reason the streets in a lot of places smell like horse s*** (still?). And as weird as this sounds I quite like that smell because it reminds me of home and my horses. Walking down the streets literally reals of history.
So today Emma and I took on the London Underground aka The Tube, and apart from getting lost in the Russel Square Station itself, we managed quite well. Before we knew it we were at St Pauls Cathderal (in which we didnt recognize at first and Emma but was like Hey what's the building over there whilst we were walking in the other direction trying to find it).
Now if you read nothing else from this blog please read this, if you ever get the chance and I mean EVER you MUST go to St Pauls Cathedral. As amazing as it looks on the outside the inside is beyond magnificent!! I was in complete awe of the mosaics, paintings, sculptures and the acoustics of this stone building built in the 1600-1700. The thought of all that has taken place in there was so hard to comprehend and all those that had been buried there in the Crpyt that had sculpted history, simply unbelievable. The beauty of this cathedral was overwhelming and all I can say (as no photos were allowed in the building itself) you must see it for yourself!
Following this Emma and I trekked to the London Bridge Experience bypassing the London Bridge for a quick photo (you know the one: London bridge is falling down falling down' falling down). The London Bridge Experience was a fun/ghost experience that talked us through what happened during the building of the bridge and the ghosts that haunted it supposidly.
Then it was off to the London Tower Bridge, one word - Wow!! This bridge is huge and it's stone and it's amazing. Emma and I went for a walk across it then went to the London Bridge Exhibition where we walked across the very top part of the bridge and went to the engine room that controlled the bridge. Apparently it opens 3 times a day... We unfortunately didn't see it though.
Next we were off to London Tower to learn of some of the cruel history of London - of the Kings and Queens, their torture methods and saw real artifacts such as their armor. I know Australia has history as a Country but nothing like this.
So after our huge history lesson we went down the Thames river on a educational river cruise and ended up at the house of parliament and the foot of Big Ben (big is an understandment and let me just say our mate Ben must have been compensating for something BIG TIME!). After a few photos we ventured to Westminster Abbey were our luck took a turn for the worst. Not only were we denied entry with our pass that was meant to grant us entry it had started to rain... Typical England. On top of this for the first time since leaving home I tried to get money out and my card appears to have been frozen by my bank (which I told 3 times I was going to Europe and received confirmation that it would work for me, bless the poor soul who receives my phone call at the NAB bank tomorrow!!)
We had some Japenese for dinner then went to head back to the hotel, but before getting on the right train we took a little detour in the opposite direction before getting back on track.
So that's all for the moment. I'll try and upload some highlights from today for you all.
Much love being sent Australia way
