Well at present im currently in Nelspruit, its the capital of Mpumalanga and very close to Kruger National Park. The main reason for me coming here is to do a safari to the Kruger. So i booked myself on a 3day/2night safari which was organised by the backpackers im staying at in Nelspruit. So bright and early Monday morning at 4am me and two american girls set off for Kruger. It took us about an hour to get there and we were ready and waiting to start our safari when the gates of Kruger National Park opened at 0530.
For those that don't know Kruger, its a National Park in the Northeast of SA and its the size of Israel- biggest Park i think in Africa, bigger than the Masai Mara.
Anyways we did a full morning of searching the park for game with a short coffee break at the capital of the Park ( yes its that big it has a capital- and its own petrol station! amoungst other things, you get the idea). We saw lots of elephants, rhinos, giraffe, zebra, Impala, Kudu, we even saw a young leopard sat under a tree with its kill of an impala. But the best sighting of all that morning was 5 Lions eating there kill which was a giraffe!!! what a sight- pictures will be on facebook when i get chance- amazing! In the afternoon we had a nap to catch up on sleep ready for a 3hr night drive at 5.30, were again we saw lots more animals. We basically saw the Big 5 in one day. We were staying in the South of the Kruger were majority of the animals are known to be, the name of the camp is called Lower Sabie. The next day wa sagain more searching in morning and afternoon with break in the afternoon. I love the chase of trying to find animals in the bush- its a great experience. The last day was again an early start to do our last safari of the trip - again lots of animals were seen, including a leopard walking infront of our jeep. Kruger is a great park and i can see why so many people go.
But we left the parkat about 8am to head to Blyde River Canyon (3rd largest canyon in the world) and also some waterfalls and a famous sight in Africa called God's Window (or as i keep calling it Gods Kitchen - i have partying on the brain). Some fantastic scenery and views across the hills and plains. Again will try and upload photos soon.
So my South Africa journey is drawing to a close, and tomorrow i will be heading to Jo'burg for my last few days there before i fly onto Oz on sunday. I have to say though i have been very tempted to saty in SA on numerous occasions!
