Hi, I arrived in Cairns this afternoon and it was bucketing down - so not got a feel for Cairns yet.
I left Magnetic Island this morning at 5.45 to catch the first ferry over to the mainland. Unfortunately I had to catch the Greyhound bus from Townsville to Cairns (six hour journey) because my train was cancelled due to the cyclone and the next one isn't due until Wednesday - can you believe that there is only one train a day. The one I was due to catch should have left Sydney three days ago - amazing - distances here are mind-blowing.
Going back to the wildlife at Magnetic Island - I've taken loads of pics because no-one will believe what I've seen. One night there was a toad in the sink in the communal toilets/showers it looked like a deflated football. Stick insects a foot long all over the place - grasshoppers that must have been on steroids and moths that wouldn't have looked out of place in a horror movie. I spent the first two nights with the sheet over my head and my Ipod on. The last night I experienced the full noise of the rain forrest at night - awesome but still scary - the whole time I was there I never went for a wee in the middle of the night - was busting by daybreak.
I've booked on a snorkelling trip to the Great Barrier Reef tomorrow - with my luck it will be cancelled - if I do get to go I'll report back - so excited. I'm being picked up at 7.30 a.m. and I'll get back around 6 p.m. - awesome.
Love everyone loads
