The phone rings ,it’s 4.30 am . Get up ,get dressed, get on the bus. Going to the take off stop to go ballooning . The driver seems intent on making it a long drive as he goes in and out of other peoples lift off area and is not finding ours. He tried at least 5 and then by magic a sparkle hit his eye and he found our base.
Watching the men perform their task to get us in the air was a spectacle in it self, then we are in the basket. The pilot now does the safety speech and three or four pulls on this flame throwing thing and we were up up and away . We drifted around for an hr going up high, down low, left, then right, all this under capable piloting of our young knowledgeable pilot
At the end he brought us down on the basket trailer, quite a trick . A glass of champagne and it was over.
Breakfast , on the bus to another tour, this time an ancient archaeological site where 25 generations or a 1000 years of the one community survived . They were and still are famous for putting their dead outside the village and letting what ever eat the remains then going to collect the bones and burying those bone in the dirt floor of their houses . This was generation after generation.
We stop for lunch along the road ,the food was only ok, then on again to Cappadocia’s Pottering Master, Monsieur Gali. This was interesting in that he looked like Albert Einstein. He demonstrated his technique on the twin kick potters wheel and gave hint on potting . After the show his assistant showed all the pottery that was for sale, it was then that I wished that I had been born rich. Anything made by the master was over $950 Australian, to rich for this kid. I say that but some of the pieces were to die for ,one such creation was the wine decanter .
We arrive back at the motel around 4.30pm, we had 3hrs to ourselves. It was needed as the day had started at 4 am. 7.00pm just a little walk to the Restruarant where we had pot kebabs , unique in that it stews the required filling similars to tagines .
Well another adventurous day end we sleep with expectations for what lies in front of us tomorrow.
Stay safe,
Shirley and John
