Our destination today was Nha Trang in Vietnam, it was the first time that Queen Mary 2 had berthed there and we were lucky to be only a short tender ride into the port.
We didn't really know what to expect but Nha Trang was a superb destination and we really enjoyed being there. The town is set along the palm tree lined narrow beach front and the french colonial style hotels, shops and bars are easily reached. It is a very popular spot with the Vietnamese to enjoy their freetime and it reminded us of a Greek fishing town.
Our tour guide An was impeccably dressed in her Thai dress and took us on our tour, Nha Trang Highlights. First stop was to the City Church at the top of the hill overlooking the town and the Long Son Pagoda, the oldest building in Nha Trang
There is also a huge Buddha on the hill which was an imposing sight over the town. We crossed over Xom Bong Bridge to visit PoNagar Cham Tower, Nha Trang's most famous landmark, built in the 8th century.
The market in the town was amazing, it is set around a central circle and you can buy anything at real bargain prices, we would guess there were over 1000 stallholders and each one trying to get your attention as you pass by. A silk dressing gown, new "Adidas" sandals and "Louis Vuitton" bag later we headed back to the beachfront so Stuart could do a little skinny dipping.
Near to our ship was Vimpearl, Nha Trangs' Seaworld, complete with cable car, roller coaster and water park, but no time for us to visit there today.
Before we departed we found a very local bar and sat watching the world go buy whilst the traders brought tableside. sunglasses, hats and cigarettes in rotation to try and sell to us, everything $1 !
Nha Trang was a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of our last few ports of call. It's strange to think that last week we were cold in China and now it's hot and humid in the tropics, our next stop is Bangkok and expected to be 100 degrees. Suntans coming along nicely again!
