Hello, so this wil be my first ever blog entry. I tried this whole thing yesterday, but it didn't seem to go through. I find the word blog to be funny by the way.
So, I'll try to recap my explorations of Amsterdam. I started off yesterday morning quite tired from my flight in from Atlanta. And equiped with my sense of direction and not much of a map, about the first thing I did was get lost, finding myself pretty far west from downtown. I spent much of the afternoon in a similar fashion. Which is to say, meandering around, realizing I didn't know where I was, and then finding my way again. In fact, by the end of the day I had done an incredible amount of walking. Other then, aimlessly walking the sightly canals and looking in shop windows, my favorite Amsterdam activity has been to chill in the numerous cafes that the city offers. Pretty much a cafe over here is a small pub with a relaxed atmosphere and oftentimes good food. Last night was spent walking around the infamous red-light district, replete with sex shops and girls in glowing red windows. A stark contrast to the Christian youth hostel I stayed in to get a good night's rest.
This morning I had to go back to the airport to retrieve some items I had left in my bag, which I had stored in a locker. This afternoon I spent doing some more well directed sight-seeing, having a better idea of the layout of the city and destinations to check out. Had a Belgian Abbey beer in a neat little beer cafe that was tucked away; a very cool spot. After chilling in my new hostel, which I like a lot, it has a bar, pool table, and DJ, I went out for dinner and then visited the SexMuseum and the Hash and Marijuana Museum. After immersing myself in the history and practicalities of pot smoking, I went out to a very cool Coffieshop. I did not smoke of course, but it was cozy and a great place to hang out.
Tomorrow its off to Uganda, which I am both nervous and excited about. I don't know if I will continue making posts on here or not, but adios until next time.
