Showered, dressed and went for a special breakfast. We paid $1.65 for an 'eat all you can' meal; cereal, eggs, sausage, coffee, fruit juices etc. After leaving the university (first day back for their students) we bought petrol and then went to the centre of St Louis. We walked to the Gateway Arch, America's tallest man-made construction [uninhabited presumably] at 630ft. We paid $1 each to go to the top of the archway in a 5-seater capsule lift. From the top there was a fantastic view of St Louis, surrounding areas and the Mississippi river.
At about 2pm we set off west o buy food on the way, from a supermarket, only to find a much cheaper supermarket plaza further down the road. We drove (Nigel and I0 continuously through to Salina in Kansas state to about 10pm. We eventually found accommodation and then went to 'Big Boy JB's' for supper.
Postcard home; Made St Louis at 8.45pm last night after 7 1/2 hours driving. Have just been to the top of this archway [pictured]. The temperature is well into the 80's. Having a good time.
