Waouh what a fantastic week! A lot of things happened. But first of all it was a wonderful week without any rain, sun and blue sky everyday! And we can´t omit the wonderful sunsets. You will see what I mean in the album.
I was also for me a goodbye week because a lot of people who were working for free accom (accommodation) left. I also changed my room to move in with, let´s say, more responsible people. They are also a bit older, 2 Dutch girls (30 and 31), 1 Belgian guy (25) and one serious looking German boy (19). He is a little bit for all of us our little brother! :)
My search for a job failed right at the beginning while trying to fit everything on 1 page. As well a friend of mine told me that I absolutely need to change my picture because I look too strict and serious and therefore not approachable and not really friendly. And I must say he is right. So I will do at least the picture this week!:)
On Wednesday Oli and I celebrated our 6 months anniversary. So I decided to take him out to a restaurant. We went in a hot volcanic stone restaurant where you can grill your meat on your own. It was a great experience and we had a wonderful evening! J
As we wanted to buy a car as soon as possible, Oli was spending every free minute looking for a car on Gumtree. As we first didn´t find a fitting car for our budget we increased it and even started to look in the region of Brisbane, which is around 1100 km away! J But finally we found a good car near Townsville (next bigger town). We wanted to rent a car o drive there because it was still 4 hours drive from Airlie! Finally the lady told us that the car did not pass the road worthy which is a certificate delivered by a garage that everything is in perfect order (in German MfK). At the same time Oli found the perfect ad! A garage just next to his school was selling a car for 1´800. Well, I mean it´s not a new car, and it´s not a limousine but it´s now our SHARKY! Sharky is older than I, from 87, branded Toyota Camry, automatic and doesn´t seem to drink too much. And he´s got over 340 thousands kilometres so looooooooads of road experience!
On Sunday it was St. Patrick´s Day! So Oli, Valerie, my roommates and I went out for a couple of drinks! After Oli and Vale left to take the last bus home, I continued partying with my friends! We had an amazing time, dancing and laughing till late! Yes you can party well in Airlie Beach! J
I nearly forgot! Oli caught his first fish!!! Well I caught the first one but we released him because he was way too small to be eaten. I caught a flathead, quite an ugly fish but very tasty apparently. J Oli grilled it in foil with some lemon, salt, pepper and butter. I must admit, it smelt very good.
People here are amazingly friendly! We experienced this while fishing with the fishermen and women. They are also happy to have a chat with you and to help you out, with hooks, baits, information about the fishes or how to kill them, their "secret" spot or even tips for what we definitely have to see while staying here!
So on Saturday, as we have now a car, we went to the Cedar Creek falls. There we had a bath and lay down to enjoy the sun! Normally there are turtles but unfortunately we did not see them. But I saw something else!! I saw my first snake!! Well it was a small one, around 30 cm long, very thin and black! I was so surprised and scared where the snake will go that I forgot to take a picture... hopefully next time I will be able to make one! J
