So I made it safely into Honduras guys! Last night was weird, I went to Rainbow for my last rice and beans there and watched Luke play and kept thinking that I had to leave and gettin g upset haha. It was horrible to have to say goodbye to my friends, especially Chelsea. After Luke and his friends stopped playing I went out for a few drinks with my friend Angelica the waitress from Rainbow and it was horrible to have to say goodbye to her, and to Luke, Sam and Oscar. I'm really going to miss them all. I got in at 3am, finished packing up the last of my things, then went to sleep for an hour before getting up at 4am for my shuttle to Honduras.
They made me a bit nervous at the Honduran border when they were looking at my passport because the girl asked me where I got the immigration stamp, then went and spoke with someone, before letting me go through, I don't know what she thought??? Weird, I just said, um, at Guatemala City airport!? It was weird, I didn't like it.
I finally arrived at about 9.30am and met Phomolo, the project manager here in Honduras, who took me to my new host family. I have a nice ensuite bedroom with a double bed and a TV in it! The mum seems really nice, can't remember her name, something like Lourdres or something.. The Dad is called Jose and he is lovely too, very friendly and chatty. She has two sons, 17 and 13 called Cristian and Luis, and Jose's dad also lives with them. I then went to sleep for an hour or so before having seafood soup for lunch then going to sleep for another hour. I then met Phomolo again for a project breif and a tour of the town to see the main things I need to know. Copan is quite a chilled out place, I like it a lot. It is very hilly which I wasn't expecting at all, steep hills too! But it is a lot smaller than Antigua. It is also a lot hotter here than I was expecting!
Right now I'm feeling pretty Guatemala-sick. I miss it. 3 and a half months is long enough to grow attached to a place, it's weird to think that I'm not going to Rainbow tonight for rice and beans and lesson planning! Also it's strange to think that I'm not going to see my kids tomorrow. I'll see my new kids, but it's not the same. I have to leave Copan at 6.30am which means breakfast at 6am, an earlier start than in Guatemala!
Let's hope the next week goes well, I'm sure I'll feel right as rain as soon as I meet the other volunteers and get up to the school. Right now I just feel exhausted after so little sleep! This internet is really annoying me aswell, it is SO bloody slow!
Lots of love to everyone,
Joelle
