Hey Guys,
You asked for a blog so here goes, don't know how often I'll be able to update it though...
Anyway, we're here in cold, snowy Moscow! Flight over was fun as had only 37 people on our plane out of about 160 spaces and it just so happened that the comedians Andy Parsons and Ed Byrne were on our flight! (think they may be filming something as had lots of equipment so keep your eyes peeled!)
On arriving we had to negotiate getting from the airport to our hostel, we were slightly disorientated but managed to get the train into the centre and then the 2 metros with relative ease despite most of the signs being in Russian Cyrillic! We were very impressed with ourselves although had prepared well and had good instructions.
Godzillas Hostel where we're staying is lovely, (it is our most expensive hostel so they'll probably get worse) we're in a 10 bed dorm with other people on Vodkatrain tours and all the staff seem to speak English.
After a morning trip to the supermarket (Moscow is expensive so trying to cook as much as possible) we walked into the centre which is pretty incredible. First we were greeted by the enormous Bolshoi Theatre and then walked on through Revolution Square to Red Square and the Kremlin.
Quote from Briony here (I slightly feel like I forced her to come to Russia); 'It's worth coming to Russia just to see St. Basil's Cathedral!'
And she's probably got a point. The architecture is truly incredible. As you walk into Red Square you are greeted by the foreboding walls of the Kremlin to your right, the massive shopping arcade GUM to your left (we went in there to warm up later!) and in front St. Basils Cathedral, not to mention Lenin's Mausoleam!
Needless to say we took lots of photos and were pretty awestruck!
So there you go a bit of an insight, quite long actually, Briony's asleep so I had a bit of free time on my hands and the internet is incredible! Don't expect it to continue but hope you appreciate it. Looking forward to sampling some strange Russian sauce that we bought at the supermarket later!

Rachel Campling Hey Neph fab to read you, yes ain't internet incredible...in my day...yawn drone zzz...anyway wonderful to read about St Basils, Red Sq and of course GUM - I remember it as an amazing emporium of not very much in the old days (1987 I was there), apart from some rather good thick socks and Russian dolls. Hey capitalism dontcha just love it. Anyway lots of love to you and Briony, sounds like you're falling brilliantly on your feet, will think of you on the train from Monday! love The Aunt xxx
Rachel Campling PS I suppose you're on Travels Without My Aunt aren't you. Luckily.
Rae Campling Wow! Sounds great. How was the sauce? I have just finished a book (Snow Drops) set in Moscow so have a clear image of where you are and especially the snow... Look forward to hearing more. Love Rae etc... xxx
