We arrived on Thailand's largest island Phuket, after a ten hour journey across from Ko Samui. We had our hotel booked in Patong, as we knew it was a large place and didn't want the hassle of walking around to find somewhere. As soon as we arrived we dumped our stuff and went straight out to explore Bangla road, the busiest strip where all the go go girl's, prostitutes and lady boys can be found. It was exactly what we had expected MAYHEM, but this was what we had come to so see. Plus we were on a mission to get a wee bit wasted after our long trip.
Bangla road was pumping, a really good atmosphere and we had a great night. We did feel sorry for the girl's who had to live that sort of life, after seeing all the sleezy men coming up to them.
The next day we spent all morning sunbathing on patong beach, which you get the usual of people trying to sell you anything from icecream to day trip's. Then Cheryl decided to drag me round the endless markets. After two days here we decided to move on, but Phuket is a large island and you need some form of transport to get around. Public transport is very limited and taxis and tuk-tuks are the only practical means. so we got a tuk tuk to take us to Kata Yai a busy, clean tourist beach just south of Patong where we found ourselfs a really nice four star hotel for £14 a night so much for being backpackers! It turned out really well, somewhere to just chill out and save a bit of money.
It was a lot more laid back, a surfers place and the beach was a lot cleaner but all the bars closed early which was a bit of a bummer. Then we moved on to Kamala Beach a quieter beach to the north of Patong, which i have to say was the nicest part of Phuket we had been to. The beach was really nice we would just spend most of our day relaxing at one of the beach bars on a sunlounger, where they would bring your drink over to you, so it was perfect for me ha ha.
We booked ourselfs a trip to go elephant treking which was one of the things we had most been looking forward to on our trip to South East Asia. We booked through a local travel agent in Kamala, we found this to be just what we wanted. You could choose whether you wanted 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes. We chose the 45 minutes. when we arrived we were excited to be so close to them, Cheryl was straight over stroking and feeding one of them, which turned out to be ours for the day.
So we jumped on and set off treking up the hill. We stopped at the top for Photos where we had panaramic views of Phuket. Then we treked down the hill and even now i cant beleive it, we went straight out onto the busy road facing on coming traffic which was doing about 70mph. The car's were beeping and wizzing past us and the poor Elephent was totally s***ing itself, so was Cheryl and me a wee bit! At this point the man on the front (the elephant's trainer) was Smashing it on the head because the poor thing didnt want to move, and then when it did decide to move it started running obviously keen to get off the road. There was blood coming from the head of the poor thing, that was enough for us. As good as it was to be up close with these massive Elephants the idiot's running the place were hiting them so hard with there canes and hooks the Elephents had cuts all over their heads and we left feeling quite disturbed.
