Today was moving day. After breakfast took Uber to LAX. Cost about half the cost of regular cab from airport. Airport was crowded, but we got thru. Bought lunch in airport. Uneventful 5 plus hour flight . Personal TV helped pass the time.
Uber & Lyft not at airport, so took regular cab to Hale Koa. Driver was born in Vietnam & came to Hawaii 20 years ago.
After settling in went to beach on hotel property. Water warm & had undertow. Also checked out pool located almost on the beach. Connor preferred the pool.
Went to supper at one of the hotel restaurants - Bibas. Sitting near us was a man wearing a "Pearl Harbor Survivor" hat. I walked up to him and asked if I could shake his hand & would he talk to Connor. He said "sure." Not sure what they talked about, but Connor will study Pearl Harbor in the 5th grade, so he'll have a story and a photo to prove it. Name was Commander John Mathrusse, USN Retired. Spent 24 years in the Navy as a pilot. First he flew dive bombers and later fighter planes. He is 94, but looks much younger. He married his 2nd wife 9 years ago, after meeting her in a coffee shop. Her name may have been Madeline. His family told me later that our encounter made his day. Ours too.
Stopped by the PX for some shopping.
Tomorrow (Wed) is a long day. Depart at 7:30 AM for the Polynesian Center and will return about 10 PM
Temp 85 and sunny

Ray So glad Connor got to meet Commander Mathrusse. He'll remember that for the rest of his life.
