Maundy Thursday FremantleWith one E.Had a discussion last night about how to say Fremantle. I say it as free but was corrected and told it is fre as in the, aftertoday I can say we are both right. We went on a city tram tour and the Fremantle born and bred driver said free except when he was talking about the local football club when he said fre, that's when he wasn't calling it Freo. All clear? It should only have taken us about 40 minutes to get here but Joe dressed this morning in his mossie combat gear i.e. long trousers, long sleeved shirt and carrying his trusty firearm a can of repellent because when we are packing up he has a lot of work to do outside the van and the mossies had been waiting all night for him.He said they were even worse today and at one point he was quite disturbed by them. Anyway once we felt we had left them behind and killed the ones hitching a lift to see their relatives in Perth we stopped at a shopping centre for Joe to get changed into his usual gear of shorts and short sleeved shirt and do our shopping but we couldn't shop because everyone was outside and the fire brigade just turning up.For some reason known only to herself Karen would not recognise the road our next site was on and to be fair to her it isn't on any of the maps we have so it was more good luck than management that we eventually stumbled onto it.Fremantle is very industrialised and is a very busy port but it has some lovely old buildings and we are told the beaches out of town are beautiful.Good Friday Wave Rock Hyden is a 700k round trip from Fremantle but it is somewhere we really wanted to go so we packed our sandwiches and set of this morning. It is one of those places miles from anywhere and the only exciting thing? after it is the rabbit proof fence which on one map is shown as the vermin proof fence. It was erected to keep the rabbits out of south and Western Australia and is still maintained today. There was a film about it a few years ago.The only exciting? Thing on the way to Hyden is a dog cemetery. We visited the dog cemetery but the fence was just a few ks too far so we passed on that anyway we had seen the film.I will leave the photos of the rock to do the talking. But on the way we saw something which really excited us two clouds had formed into the shape of an enormous cross and it kept its shape for miles. What a sight on Good Friday.
