Friday Port Augusta S.A.Not very interesting drive from Burra except near the end when in the distance we saw a vivid turquoise slash across the flat plain ahead. We couldn't decide if it was water or a mirage. It was water. Port Augusta is at the top of Spenser Gulf with the Southern Sea at the mouth. The colour of the water has changed during the day with the best colour in the late afternoon. We came here with some trepidation and probably wouldn't have stopped but we have had our mail sent on to here.We were nervous because we have a book by a couple who had done this trip and they described P.Au. as a miserable place inhabited by miserable, rude people and said if you have to call there, do your business and get out as fast as you can.Booking in at the caravan site with a very unhelpful lady didn't help but after a day here we can say "Fellow travellers, you are wrong." Everyone we have met has been cheerful and helpful and the place has enough to do for a day. At 8.30am we had a cruise on the gulf on a comfortable, modern boat with a very pleasant guide who did a good commentary and we saw dolphins right by the boat. At the information centre is an interactive/display/museum which costs $10 but is well worth it.There is a café so you can have a rest and lunch. It took us 3 hours to look round and we enjoyed everything.Lots of videos and audios and not too much reading.Tomorrow we are of to Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges.
