Monday 21st April Litchfield National Park.Yesterday after going to the lively Baptist church which actually had more young people than old we had a ride out to Nitmiluk Gorge better known in the past as Katherine Gorge. It was actually a bit disappointing. We have done better boat trips and seen better visitor centres so if you are over this way and time or finances are pressing and you have to prioritise I would miss Katherine. On our way to Darwin we had been told by a number of people to visit Litchfield N.P. which we were told has the most accessible waterfalls and swimming holes. It is a bitumen road all the way through the park and the last waterfall Wangi has steps with handrails to get down into the water and a wonderful waterfall to swim behind, trouble was it is closed to swimmers because they haven't checked it yet for any salt crocodiles which may have got in there in the wet season. All the tourist info says these things are open in April but I think May would be a better month to tell people to come and be certain of doing the things they have come for.Sorry just a little rant. Two of the falls are not swimmable at any time but Florence Falls is open but it is either a 1.7k walk or down 135 steps so a no no for me.We did see the magnetic termite hills which all face 10 degrees east. The termites live on one side in the morning and when the sun moves round they all move round to the other side.Bet you never knew termites were so riveting.Joe has just come back from the shower block which he shared with a baby frog and various bugs. Not as bad as one day on last years trip when he shared his shower with a possum.I shower in the van. Today was the first day we have been conscious of the tourist season starting we shared all the waterfalls with 3 coach's of tourists.Interesting though, they spent about the same time at each attraction as we did.
