So since writing we have walked (or rather breathlessly trekked) the Tongariro crossing; the views were well worth it, you could see from the East coast to the West! The crampons weren't a great success, after spending 20 minutes trying to put them on right (Joe having to get the guide to do up his) we wanted to get them off straight away. Although they were good for your grip they were heavy and I (D) found it worryingly easy to trip over; nice big cliffs either side! However, it was brilliant and we really would do it again!
We have also been whale watching as you have probably seen from the photos. we saw 6 sperm whales! Although Joe only saw about three because he got very seasick; I felt very sorry for him, as he had to sit at the back on his own with a paper bag and was doing well until the boat caught on fire and the smell made him sick. Luckily a finnish girl (who usually suffered aswell) came to his rescue ands disposed of his paper bag for him!
Last night we went to the Queenstown winter festival Mardi gras; lots od mulled wine, food stalls and fireworks! I intend on trying to find the pizza toss andthe locaql business men's drag queen race later on today.
Joe has gone skiing up Coronet reak and the Remarkables today and left me in a very excited state this morning at 7.20am to return at 7.40 because he'd forgotten his ticket (something that has been my thing this trip!). I'm sure he's really enjoying him self now and sliding around on the 'brand new' skis he has hired!
Anyhow, this morning was soo cold that I had to spenmd 20minutes getting the frost off the inside of the van with my yha card...bbrrr...It reminded me of stagecoach buses and the icles on the roof!
Hope i's a bit warmer than minus 8 where you are!
Love and miss you all x x
p.s. we saw lots of seals lazing about at Kaikoura too...very cute!
