I wake up at 7am on mateys sofa. Everyone else is completely zonked and Family Guy is playing on the TV. It's pretty light outside so I get some more shots off his balcony before I trudge back to the hostel. Its about 3 miles. I impress myself by navigating my way through Brisbane straight back to Banana Bender. Its nice weather during my walk back. I take lots of photos of some of the awesome buildings on the way. It really is a beautiful and well maintained city. When I get back I sleep for a few more hours and get up at midday. The beautiful weather has turned back into rain. It's a walk outside in the rain to and from the shower but the rain is pretty much the same temperature I have shower. The walk back to the room is like an extended shower. The weather soon turns nice again though. After a bowl of cereal I head into the city centre and just go for a wander. I notice a sign that says 'Roger David'. I'm not sure if my dad and uncle have gone into business together or whether its just suggesting something for people to do. It's very humid at lunch time. I decide to head to Brisbane's botanical gardens. It's an awesome place with over 1800 different species of plants (by the way I read that in a leaflet. I didn't count them). It contains lots of exotic birds and lizards. It was great fun spotting and photographing the lizards. Some of them were pretty big. I probably spot about 20 lizards. It's amazing to see such animals in a natural environment. There a loads of these Golden Orb Spiders too. I could easily spend a whole day in there and will definitely return there when I'm back in Brisbane. The heavens opened and it rained pretty hard at one point whilst I was in there. When I get back to the hostel, I FaceTime mum and dad. It then takes me a good hour to upload my latest photos and videos onto faceturd. It's annoying that the local supermarket is shut, it means I'll have to splash out a bit more money for a take away. I get a spaghetti bolognaise. On the way back I see a large frog. Adam and Jules try to persuade me to go out with them but the thought of travelling on a bus tomorrow being hungover is enough to put me off. I end up falling asleep in the movie room, when I wake up it's full of Germans watching 'Inglorious Basterds'. Obviously none of them are Nazis. I watch the rest of the film which ends just in time for kick off. Yep it's 1am here, which means its 3pm in England and Newcastle v Wolves is kicking off. I expect to follow the game on twitter but the game is being played live (commentary) on the NUFC app which is great. So I'm up on the decking listening to the game watching my golden orb spider dude friend expanding his web, which as his name suggests, is a golden/yellow colour. There is a younger one next to him but the young ones webs aren't golden. Only the biggies are. They are both quite busy. First time I've seen them so active. Occasionally a drunk backpacker comes in, makes a drunken speech then stumbles off to their room.
Amazing. A Possum walks in and comes really close to me. I move slowly to take photos and it seems really tame. Somebody has left a dirty plate out with a few scraps on it so I put it on the bench next to me and it eats the remains and licks the plate. It's arms length away from me. I'm tempted to try and stroke it but I don't want to scare it off. It stays for about 10 minutes then walks off. Truly amazing it was. Today certainly has been dominated by the wild animals I've seen. The exotic birds, the lizards, the golden orb weaving spiders, the frog and a possum! The possum is cute. It suddenly appears on the bench next to me again. It's quite dark but it can move very silently. This time it only stays for a couple minutes then heads off towards the rooms. I then spot one walking across a power line on the other side of the street. It's a thick power line but I didn't realise they could do that. It looks cool seeing its silhouette on the power line but it's too dark to get a descent photo. It's now 3am and the game has finished. Newcastle threw away a 2 goal lead and draw 2-2. Bed time.
