And so it begins. The start of a journey into the unknown, the beginning of a new year.
Today Jenny and I are going to Halfords in town to purchase our bikes. Big day as these are the bikes that will take us around the world! I contacted an old University friend, Leo for advice on the specifications of the bicycle. He was very helpful and found a hybrid one for half price which as he is full of knowledge is sufficient for our needs. I've told Leo he will now be our bike guru for our travelling trip.
The plan is to pick the bikes up today and then cycle home from town. Very excited as finally something concrete has come of all our plans. It's all very well researching the trip but now it all feels very real. I will post a picture of the bikes and list the specifications later today.
Later today ...
After a slightly arduous cycle from town to home we are under no illusions now it's going to be hard work getting trained up for this journey. I think we were both a bit embarrassed in Halfords as if the server was thinking 'wtf are these two doing' lol.
We had a maccys to fill us up and set off properly along the prom after buying an allen key from B&Q. The seats were very high and needed adjusting, in fact I think an 18 inch frame may be a bit big.
I can not cycle uphill at all and Jenny only a bit better. Both out legs started getting wobbly by Penrhyn Bay but the downhill ride was fun. Jenny discovered the bolts hadn't been tightened properly on her handle bars or front wheel so the allen key turned out to be a good buy. Lucky she got down the hill unscathed. From there on we had one break at Rhos and separated at Old Colwyn. Glad I didn't have to cycle to Abergele! Bike is now in the shed. Jenny says it already has a bell she found after nearly running an elderly couple down. Definitely need a basket on payday.
All in all a good purchase and a real beginning. Excited much.
