So I wrote a blog yesterday, but the Internet in the Hostel wasn't working when I tried to upload it - so here is yesterdays with todays added onto the end!
Hi everyone!
Today has been action packed! We got up at 6, and have just got in (it is now half 7).
First stop today was The Statue of Liberty, we got on a little ferry that shipped us over to the island - we learnt about the sybolism of the statue and the history. Really interesting and very impressive.
From there the ferry took you to Ellis Island (my favourite bit), Ellis Island was where all immigrants coming into America had to stop. There were 5,000 people a day (it's only a small island!) going through checks and tests to see if they would be allowed in. Only around 2% were refused entry - but that worked out at around 2000 people a week!
From here we took the Staton Island ferry, really good views of the Manhattan sky line from here. Very stange on the ferry back, there were lots of police patrolling the boat and we had a coast guard escourt!
Once back on land, we took a walk up Wall Street (got a good trump towers photo). This lead to the Ground Zero site; it is such a massive area its hard to imagine how big the twin towers were - there is definity a huge gap in the skyline. We got lost trying to find the Ground Zero museum - but we all decided it had been worth the wait. It was upsetting, but good to see what families have done since and to hear peoples stories. Makes you want to make the most of what you have!
I hope the family (and ginge?) are having a good time at the Malt house. Happy Birthday Katie Smith! I hope you had a laarrvely day :)
Loads of Love Jodes x
Hi all!
We let ourselves have a lie in today, yesterday was seriously hectic and I don't think we have slept past half 7 since we arrived!
We strolled down to Central Park at about half ten, its really odd to go from huge skyscrapers to big fields and lots of trees! Its great, we went to have a look at Strawberry Fields then had a bit of a sunbathe, its been absolutely red hot today.
This afternoon we went to a museum called "Ripleys, Believe it or not", it was a right laugh! Its full off weird and wonderful facts - there was a man who could put an ice pick up his nose! We got a great picture of the group - will try to get it on here soon!
Having a great time! Went to China Town on Monday and spent more than I had planned!! Fifth Avenue soon - shopping galore!
Missing you all loads; hopefully write soon
Lots of love
Jodes
