The nexy day we made our way to Kuala Lumpur, malaysias capital city. We were staying in china town again and the hotel was a lot nicer this time (the last one had a mouse in it which had me and gem scremaing and the whole corridor ended up in our room trying to seek it out!) Kuala Lumpur is a huge modern city and the people are more 'in your face' and a bit pervy, they will say anything to get your attention! Our first meal we ate at a restaurant called old china which was very quaint and had a good reputation so i dared to try the local dish of beef rendang (spicy with coconut and aromatic herbs and spcies)- i hated it but glad i gave it a try! The following day Gemma and I left the group and managed to find a local bus to the Batu caves, we didnt really know where to get off etc but we managed! It;s still very multicultural here, the bus was full of chinese and indian all in thier traditional dress. The caves were stunning up in the cliffside and up 272 steps in the heat! The caves had been made into art using the cave walls and another using poetry. We had a fresh coconut and drank the milk after wathcingthe guy chut it open for us and it was delicious! In the third cavethere were lots of monkeys we had been warned like to steal peoples stuff so when one came running at me I threw the coconut at it!@! It sat and scoffed it and all the locals were laughing at my reaction- i really need to chill! Dodging the monkeys to get to the main cave was like being in a computer game! We saw all the stalagmites ans stalagtites and the sunlight through the cave roof gave good photo ooppotunities. At the end we looked at the bird park- there was a bridge with fish to feed and lovely water features. I fell in love with a parrot i named andrew, he was yellow with blue eyyes and he wouldnt leave me alone- will put the photos up shortly. We headed back on the bus to the main city for lunch then went to the famous menara tower (4th tallest in the world at 421m!) and went up in the lift to the top to see a panaramic view of the city. It was great if a little scary being so high up in the sky! We bumped into chris from our group there so spent the rest of the day with him riding the sky train round the city for fun wothout getting off! In the evening we ate in the modern KLCC shopping centre, nicest ive seen yet with all the designer shops such as Jimmy choo and louis viton and tiffany. I was just window shoppping but gem tried on a pari of 450 puound shoes! Then we went outside to tsee the beautiful penates towers all lit up at night and the fountains it was gorgeous.
The next dayn we travelled to Melaka, a port town and malaysias first city. I liked it here it was like being in toy town with all the quaint buildings and flowers and windmills We had lunch in an organic cafe (toasted pitta with humous and salad, pinapple and kiwi smoothie) and looked in the antique shops then went to the museum of enduring beauty which showed how different cultures represent and beauty such as the africans who stretch thier ear oibes and those that scar thier skin or have tatoos- it was interesting. The hostel rooms were msaller than my bathroom at homeand had no natural light but it had a nice garden so we sat out there listening to the frogs and gekos hopping by!In the evening we took a trishaw ride which is a bike with a seat decorated with brightly coloured flowers, playing music, it was so cute i loved it but it started rainging! Its rained a lot in malaysia actually. We stoppped at a temple and saw a candle that had been burning for over 400 years (gem said she was going to blow it out haha. I really liked melaka it was an attractive and quirky place. Afterwards we headed to singapore which i shall tell you about soon! miss you ! x
