The next day we travelled to townsville, we were meant to go to magnetic island but everywhere was fully booked due to easter hols and we didnt fancy sleeping on the beach so we found a hostel in townsville instead. Apparently there are crocs everywhere, both in salt water and in fresh water so im even checking the swimming pools before i get in!! We strolled past the mariner and had an ice cream then went back to the terrace and made firends with some people, we had debates and good converstaion, it was an eye opener and i really enjoyed it! Everyone guessed I was from finland until i opened my mouth to reveal a yorkshire accent! The next day we jumped on the bus to head further down the coast to airlie beach- the town where everyone catches their sailing boats to whitsunday islands- the most famous trip backpackers do in oz so we had to squeeze ourselves on a booking on a sailing boat as most were fully booked weeks ago! We picked hammer which is one of oz's most famous racing boats. We had to help sail it which was fun and was nice to get involved not just have a boat ride. we sailed out to white havebn beach which is meant to be aussies nicest beach and some say its the nicest in the world- i wouldnt argue with that- check the photos it was picture perfect! even nicer than the phi phi islands in thailand. Airy beach was nice too, a little seaside town with a mariner which was set up by ivarna trump! The hostel was rough though- definately the worst yet (so i keep saying!!!) it stank of urine and the shower didnt work. it is the most expensive one we have stayed in too- disgraceful! its called koalas but i wouldnt let a koala live there its than minging! I could have cried when i walked in! Apparently it has a problem with bed bugs too- hmmmm im not scratching yet anyway!!
The sailing trip was worth every dollar. the views were spectacular, the water was calm and clear and we saw hundreds of fish, more than on the barrier reef, one of which was the size of a dog- no joke it was huge but gentle i think it was called a lumpyskinned ras. i will upload a picture from goodle as i didnt get one of him, he was cute i named him fred. it was lovley snorkling around with gemma seeing things ive only ever seen on documentaries! we spent the night on the boat below deck which was interesting- we didnt get sea sick! we sat out on deck and watched the star constellations till late it was lovely and watched the sun set in blue pearl bay. its magical there are butterflies flying over the water and on the beaches! i helped sail the boat, i made a good captain i think i will be one when i get home as a new career. oh and we saw a ginat sea turtle!!!! i nearly cried!!!!!!! so cute! they were everywhere in the sea, and kept coming up for air! it was such a beautiful couple of days, we ate, slept and worked on the boat then relaxed by swimming in the ocena, i still cant relax about the alligators and shakrs but the things we saw under the water just were remarkable, i knowim easily impressed but i felt so lucky as i was zooming round the coral!! tomorrow we are having a 10 hour bus journey to a cattle ranch where we will hosre ride and see how the ranch works! will update soon- check my pics of the white haven beach, so pretty. there was a heart shaped island- i want to live on it. missing you. 5 weeks gone already!! i love this globe its sooo pretty!!!! xxxxx
